Book Week 2008 – ‘Fuel Your Mind’

April 1st, 2008 by shar17

The CBC shortlist was announced today and includes some ‘regulars’ – Pamela Allen, Margaret Wild, Jackie French,Carole Wilkinson, Bob Graham as well as newcomers Elise Hurst, Liz Lofthouse, Aaron Blabey. Librarians around Australia will now be ordering frantically to ensure their library has the books by August 16th! Like last year, I had purchased some of the books already, but others I haven’t even seen in bookshops!

Now to think of some display ideas related to the theme……..

What do Colin Thompson’s frames mean?

August 7th, 2007 by shar17

You may have seen this year’s Book Week poster from the Children’s Book Council….it has been designed by Colin Thompson ( “The incredibly short and happy life of Riley). What do the picture frames represent?

Let us know in the ‘comments’!

We have just read ‘Ella Kazoo’ and have been discussing techniques used by authors when writing picture books. Stage 2 are writing their own and have discovered that some of the best ideas for stories usually come from our own experiences. Most of us today could relate to the ( sometimes) painful experience of having our hair brushed!

I have just read that Ella Kazoo is to be the first of 3 Ella stories……another one is “Ella Kazoo will not clean her teeth” to be published in 2009!

Holiday Reading

July 3rd, 2007 by shar17

Now the school holidays have begun it’s a great opportunity to start reading the shortlisted titles. Two vastly different picture books I have enjoyed are ‘Chatterbox’ and ‘Water Witcher’, the latter being very topical. Looking forward to reading the others!
