BOOK SAFARI!
April 1st, 2009 by shar17It was exciting to read the titles shortlisted in the CBCA annual Book Week Awards yesterday. Some of our favourite titles we have been reading are on the list – Yr 6 are happy to see ‘Then’ while some of our younger students will be cheering for ‘Sunday Chutney’. I’m very pleased to see that one of our local authors, Sandy Fussell has ‘Polar Boy’ listed, so locals in the north of Wollongong, NSW will have their fingers crossed for Sandy!
What titles have YOU read so far?

I think this year is a wonderful shortlist and I am working my way through all the books. Perry Angel is beautifully written with wonderful similes and metaphores. Audrey of the outback is full of cliche phrases but would be great for Australia unit for year 3 or The Way We Were for Year 2. I adore Word Spy as I am a great lover of words. The Christmas Miracle one gave me goosebumps and Home and Away was very `in your face’ and thought provoking. I’ll write again once I’ve read some more.

I have read The Big Little Book of Happy Sadness. I think that the book tells a good message. The message is that if there is something or someone that needs help you should do what you can to help them. I think that the title is different because it includes opposites. The author has done this because it is both a happy and sad story. The pictures also help the story reveal what the story is about.
